It's a tragic story of a young man who was brutally murdered because he refused to be treated inhumanly by two undercover police officers.
The story began on 6th June 2010 when Khaled Saeed went to a cybercafe in Alexandria, Egypt. Then two undercover police officers ambushed that cafe asking people for IDs. He - Khaled - did reject that way of inhumane treatment, and consequently was viciously attacked and severely kicked by the undercover police officers. Khaled's head was smashed against a marble wall in the cafe, then Khaled's corpse were thrown in the street to claim that he was attacked by some strangers in order for the undercover police officers to avoid responsibility.
The Ministry of Interior affairs in Egypt issued a statement rebuffing accusations that police had a hand in the killing, adding: "The forensic report showed that Saeed, who was at large following two criminal convictions, died of suffocation from an overdose of drugs he swallowed immediately before his capture."
A statement issued by the opposition movement April 6 Youth, argued that photographs of Khaled after his death provided evidence that he died as a result of having been beaten and claim "he was severely beaten while he was still alive."
Speaking in an interview, cafe owner said that two officers had come into his cybercafe and dragged Saeed to an adjacent house, where they beat him to death.
Khaled is not the only Egyptian citizen to be tortured and killed by Egyptian police, and won't be the last if we remain silent.
As human beings, we ask for a silent stand to mourn the martyr of state of emergency in Egypt. We want to send a strong message to Egyptian authorities to investigate and explain what happened to the public and to strongly condemn it. Please, join us in this silent stand on Saturday, June 26th 2010 at 4:00 pm at Saskatchewan drive and 111 street in Edmonton. Don't let Kaled's mother down.We need to assure her that her son's killers will stand a fair trial. We want the series of torture by Egyptian police to end.
